Hello. I’m Steve Dragswolf, a writer and editor currently living in Albuquerque, NM, but am originally from the Fort Berthold Reservation (otherwise known as either the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation or, as the feds call us, the Three Affiliated Tribes) of North Dakota. I’m mostly Hidatsa and Arikara, but I guess I still have to claim some Mandan in me somewhere.
Bad Lodge is an outlet for my creative writing, a place to share my own essays, short fiction, and other similar things. You can read a fuller explanation of my intentions and inspiration for this site in my “Introduction," and learn more about who I am by reading my essay, “The Almost Indian." In addition to this website, I post personal updates on my blog and have a general landing page, Dragswolf.com, that connects to my freelance work.
Check out some of my writing and let me know what you think. Thanks for being here.
P.S. I’ve grown more comfortable with imperfection in this age of artificial intelligence, and, as a simple protest against its prevalence in writing and thinking these days, opt to allow myself to be less of a perfectionist in my own writing to simply get words on the page regardless of typos, grammatical errors, or weird syntax issues (all of which I will correct when I find them on subsequent rereads as I also attempt to reassure myself that it’s okay to have made the mistake in the first place while still worrying that I’m a fraud anyway).
